What I Learned From The 10-Steps Skincare Method

This blog is dedicated to those who are new in skincare but feel free to go through this blog even if you’re already into skincare.

The 10-steps skincare method was started by the Koreans for who knows how long, well for me 2016 was when I knew such a method exists. I’ve been where you are if you’re new, and I understand it can be a bit confusing and you may not know where to start.

I started the wrong way but was also the right way. How? I based my products on every product review. I researched about it, I asked some skincare lovers about the products and which product they recommend. Oh boy, I wish I knew Liah Yoo before I started (yes, this blog is also dedicated to my appreciation towards the beauty brand, Krave Beauty which was founded by Liah Yoo). I started using products that had a lot of 5-stars and a lot of good reviews, I mean that’s not bad, right? What’s worse is that I didn’t know what my skin type was and what my skin needed the most so that’s when the breakouts started.

This is not, in any way, to put the 10-Step skincare method into a bad light. I started with of course a cleanser, toner, serum, any other treatments I needed, moisturizer, sleeping masks, sheet masks, and hello sunscreen my new friend. Okay, I did not really follow the 10-step method, because, for one, it isn’t 10-steps in every routine.

Would you care if I explain a bit? Oh right, you don’t have a choice. 😉 The 10-steps is only a guide:

  • Oil-based cleanser (to remove makeup and sunscreen)
  • Water-based cleanser (to remove dirt and any remnants from the first cleanser)
  • Exfoliator (to remove dead skin cells; used twice or thrice a week depends on your skin)
  • Toner (to neutralize the pH levels of your skin and prep your skin for the next steps)
  • Sheet Mask or any other form of face mask (an extra boost of hydration and treatment)
  • Essence (a lightweight treatment that can be for hydration or acne)
  • Serum (a thicker consistency treatment for acne, hyperpigmentation, and even sun damage)
  • Ampoule (a more concentrated consistency than serum with almost the same treatments)
  • Eye Cream (extra care for the eye area targeting dark circles and fine lines)
  • Moisturizer (to moisturize your skin, of course)
  • Facial Oil (additional boost for during winter seasons and for those with dry skin)

Okay, that’s 11 steps, Nads! Okay yes, but for some, the oil-based and water-based are all the same in the cleanser category and they call it the Double Cleansing Method. Apparently, you need this if you use heavy makeup! I get it, Nads, now let’s get this straight. What did you really learn from this? Okay, fine, I’ve talked too much!

  • First and foremost, know your skin type first, and your skin concerns (acne, acne scars, fine lines, wrinkles, uneven skin tone, etc). You may want to check out this link to get an idea of what your skin type is. This will help you pick up which products you need. I started without knowing my skin type so you can imagine I might have used products that I didn’t even need!

And … (drum rolls)

  • I don’t need to do a 10-step routine to achieve clear skin. It turns out I only need the products my skin needs but to know what your skin needs you have to know what your skin type and concerns are. BUT, there are other people who use a full 10-step routine and fulfilled a clearer skin and that’s okay too! But then again this is meant for you skincare newbies, our babies. You don’t need to dive in a full 10-step in order to achieve your skin goals.

So what do I need to do then? Great question! Start with the basics, the fundamentals of skincare, and that is to clean off dirt, moisturize your face, and protect it from the harsh UV rays. This is not just a Krave Beauty thing, I’ve done this by minimizing the products I used and only stick to the products that have worked for me. Start with these three steps and let’s learn when you’re ready to try off the other kind of products!

I know you are here to get answers on how to achieve clear skin, smooth texture, get rid of large pores, but to tell you the truth, there is no ONE answer to that. Well, for one, a dermatologist can help you with that if you have the money for the sessions and maintenance. But I know you’re here because you wanted to do skincare and I give you the credit for the dedication. Okay, I’ve talked too much again, haven’t I?

Did I do a good job by the way? Have I helped you in some way? If you do so, your comment below will really make me happy and will make me want to create more content like this! 🤗
