Krave Beauty Beet The Sun Review

“Is Krave Beauty’s sunscreen worth the hype?”, is a question I always get. Your skincare shouldn’t be based on hype. For me, Krave Beauty products worked for me and that’s why I always come back to them. It’s overwhelming out there I know but I hope you find a brand or a product you could always run to when your skin doesn’t cooperate with you. 😉

I’m not sure if I’m gonna do this review right, but reviewing sunscreen is a next-level challenge. So without further ado let’s start this review up!

Krave Beauty Beet The Sun | Product Review | Nadine Ohh

What is it?

According to Krave Beauty Website: It is “a gentle, antioxidant-rich day fluid that protects your skin from harsh environmental stressors. The Beet Shield is a lightweight, non-white cast leaving formula that’s charged with beetroot extract and antioxidants to fight against the free radicals so you don’t turn beet-red.”

It’s a chemical sunscreen with SPF 50+ PA++++, it claims to leave no white cast and no residue.

Packaging

The product comes inside a unique packaging of hot pink and white translucent like a 90s postcard design. The 50ml product is housed in an aesthetic white plastic bottle that’s travel-friendly, can be recycled as long as you know your city’s recycling guide (more information about their plastic bottle here).

Texture and Scent

The color of the texture is light yellow and the best way to describe the color is that it looks like condensed milk! The texture is almost similar to condensed milk but it’s not sticky. Krave Beauty describes the texture as gel-fluid but this reminds me more of condensed milk. 😉 (I like me some condensed milk!) It’s fragrance-free as well but I do smell the alcohol from it which doesn’t really bother me at all.

Ingredients

Water, Butyloctyl Salicylate, Dibutyl Adipate, Beta Vulgaris (Beet) Root Extract, Alcohol, Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate, Bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine, Ethylhexyl Triazone, Glycerin,  Pentylene Glycol, Isoamyl p-Methoxycinnamate, Polysilicone-15, Inulin Lauryl Carbamate, Methyl Methacrylate Crosspolymer, Sodium Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Tromethamine, Methylpropanediol, Isohexadecane, Caprylyl Glycol, Glyceryl Caprylate, Polymethylsilsesquioxane, 1,2-Hexanediol, Polysorbate 80, Lithospermum Erythrorhizon Root Extract, Macadamia Ternifolia Seed Oil, Sorbitan Oleate, Ethylhexylglycerin, Allantoin, Epigallocatechin Gallate, Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Butylene Glycol, Resveratrol

Key Ingredients

According to Krave Beauty website:

  • Beta Vulgaris (Beet) Root Extract – an underrated yet amazingly antioxidant-rich vegetable, the beetroot holds skin enhancing properties like preventing signs of aging, reducing pigmentation and blemishes and moisturization
  • Allantoin – soothes skin and relieves skin irritation
  • Vitamin C (Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate), Resveratrol, EGCG (Epigallocatechin Gallate) – powerful tag team of antioxidants is proven to shield skin against external stressors and neutralized free radicals

UV Filters / Sunscreen Active Ingredients

  • Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate (Uvinul A Plus) – absorbs UVA rays
  • Bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine (Tinosorb S) – absorbs both UVA and UVB rays, helps prevent photo-destabilization of other actives
  • Ethylhexyl Triazone (Uvinul T 150) – absorbs UV rays
  • Isoamyl p-Methoxycinnamate (Amiloxate) – absorbs UVB rays
  • Polysilicone-15 (Parsol SLX) – absorbs UVB rays

Alcohol is Top 5 on the list, but here is Krave Beauty’s answer to that:

In order to ensure that the product performs to its highest degree, we have carefully chosen to include ethanol in our formulation, which may be concerning to some, but let us explain. Ethanol serves many purposes in skincare formulation. We use it to stabilize the UV filters, create a lightweight consistency and as a solvent in our formulation.

It was not used as a mattifying ingredient to dry out your skin, in fact, the formula feels hydrating while leaving your skin a healthy sheen. One thing you can be sure of is that there is nothing in this product that isn’t absolutely necessary or absolutely approved for consumption.

We even tested the final formula and got a result that we had NO irritation on a small test group. (The clinical trial was done by Global Medical Research Center that follows Frosch & Kligman and The Cosmetic Toiletry, and Fragrance Association (CTFA) guideline)

However, if you are someone who’s suffering from rosacea, or severe skin condition we do not recommend that you use The Beet Shield/Beet The Sun and consult with your healthcare provider before doing so.

My Experience

For starters, I did not experience bad breakouts from using this which is a good sign! But I did experience a slight burning sensation in the first few tries which dissipates after a few seconds (only in my cheek area where it’s more acne-prone). The slight burning sensation disappeared after using it every day so I’m guessing it was an ingredient that my skin just needs to get used to it. Until now I’ve not experienced the burning sensation anymore!

This sunscreen despite having alcohol high on the list was not at all drying to my skin. It is also very easy to spread and it didn’t leave any white cast, instead, it gives off that healthy glow in me. It might be too glowy for those suffering from oily skin alone so a dab of setting powder should help. My skin absorbs it pretty well (since it’s lightweight) after a few minutes and it leaves my skin plump like I just have another moisturizer on top. Applying cushion on top of it wasn’t a bother as well but I’ve already skipped using makeup now. 😉

You might have known before that my skin doesn’t tolerate products with Vitamin C. This product has Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate which is a form of Vitamin C that’s listed third to the last in the ingredients, so I bet this ingredient has a lower percentage and that made it alright to use for my skin. Any guesses if this is what caused that burning sensation? Yep, kind of me too.

I’ve already finished one and my second bottle is almost finished as well. The first bottle lasted me for 2 months maybe because I work from home and I don’t go out a lot of times, I use it every day but I don’t reapply because I wake up late (I’m a night owl). The second bottle lasted for 4 months JUST BECAUSE I alternate it with my other sunscreen products.

Final Verdict

Overall it’s an effective chemical sunscreen! I love the dewy look it gives me during the day and I enjoy the fact that I did not have any breakouts from this! I’m already in my second bottle and yes I’m still going to repurchase! I’ve not tried a lot of sunscreens yet but so far I know I’ll be coming back to this one.

I do wish they ship worldwide now because it’s so hard getting their products and we have to pay extra for the products too. I can still wait!

PRODUCT RATING 4.5/5 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌗 – the 0.5 for the first slight burning sensation

KraveBeauty Matcha Hemp Hydrating Cleanser - Product Review

Who is KraveBeauty?

KRAVE BEAUTY is a beauty brand from South Korea founded by Liah Yoo. They launched their first product (Matcha Hemp Hydrating Cleanser) last December 12, 2017 (if I’m not mistaken). KraveBeauty products are vegan-friendly, cruelty-free, essential-oils free, fragrance-free, and colorant-free.

We’re a skincare company that sells a cleanser while telling you to cleanse less. WHAT? I know, how ironic, right? Are we non-profit? No. We have bills to pay. We just believe that being transparent wouldn’t compromise the company’s growth.

We’re good people, with good intention, a nerdy friend who’s looking out for you–starting from your skin.

A bit more about us? Our brand was founded by beauty influencer, Liah Yoo, to fight the ineffective yet conventional skincare routine that has trained you to apply more than what your skin actually needs.

It’s simple. We tell the truth to make your skin to its top-notch shape, and we create skincare products that work with your skin, not against it.

Thanks for this detailed review!! I read your review of the Keep Cool sun essence, but how do you think that compares to the Krave Beet Shield? I’ve been a fan of Krave’s sunscreen for 2 bottles now, but am about to run out and am debating between sticking to Krave vs trying Keep Cool!

Thank you so much for your comment! I’ve finished 2 bottles of Krave Beauty’s Beet The Sun/The Beet Shield too! They’re both chemical sunscreens but if you’d love for a more dewy look then I’d recommend Krave Beauty’s, but if you want a semi-matte to dewy finish then Keep Cool it is! Though I’d recommend you try Keep Cool too so you can experience the difference. 🙂 I hope this helps!
