I’m From Rice Mask Review

SPOILER ALERT: A NOT SO LONG STORYTIME BEFORE WE START. I’ve had this mask since 2019 but I did not use it because my skin doesn’t approve one fermented ingredient found in this product, namely, Saccharomyces Ferment Filtrate. I guess I was a bit skeptical, or maybe paranoid because I had a bad experience from products with the same ingredient.

I’ve had the same fungal acne breakouts last year but the mistake I did was that I self-diagnosed myself (I mean, I went to see a dermatologist but they seem to believe there’s no such thing as fungal acne). I’ve had small itchy and a lot, and I mean A LOT, of red bumps in my cheek and forehead, it was the same breakouts as fungal acne so I had to stop using products that aggravate it.

Which actually worked and the small itchy bumps faded more when I started a minimal routine. My skin’s feeling better and since quarantine life started I wanted to test if the bumps will come back again by using this product (I know, kind of crazy)! So, let’s start, shall we?

What is it and what does it do?

This scrub is fortified with Rice Bran and Rice Powder to remove dead skin cells and impurities and restore the skin’s natural glow and translucence. Vitamin B1, B2, and rice water containing various minerals tighten loose skin and enlarged pores. (From Wishtrend.com)

Let’s list the major benefits that we will about to rate at the end of this review:

1) Remove dead skin cells and impurities,
2) Restore skin’s natural glow, in other words, brightening, and
3) Improve skin texture and shrink enlarged pores.

Packaging and Pricing

It’s packed in the signature glass jar packaging of all I’m From’s wash-off masks. It comes in an aesthetic white and beige colors perfect for Instagrammable shots too! It includes a white plastic spatula for scooping the product.

Texture and Scent

It has an off-white creamy texture mixed with bits of yellow to brown-ish granules from rice grains and husks. It has a sweet powdery scent with, kind of strong, and a very faint-to-no rice scent.

My Experience

My first impression was “Oh my gosh!” and I’m not even kidding. It is summertime and summer in the UAE can get up to 50 degrees Celsius! I had enlarged pores and my skin was oily at the same time dehydrated (yes, my skin is not at its best every summer and I’m working on how to at least take control one problem).

I apply this product in a damp face, you may encounter slight problems in spreading because of the granules. I used this mask as a massaging mask and gently massaged it on my face for not more than 5 minutes. I was careful because it has bits of granules and some of it might scratch the face, well, luckily for me I did not scratch myself! The rinsing part was a bit tricky, it takes a lot of time to rinse it all off and it leaves a layer of film which makes the skin feel more plumped. If you don’t like the feeling of rice stickiness then you might need to step back a sec. I recommend using pads when applying your toner to make sure all the remaining granules are removed.

After rinsing, my skin feels soft as a baby’s bum, it felt plumped, and my skin brightened! I can just skip using my essences/serums and just use a moisturizer and SPF to wrap it all up! (I’ve only used this during my morning routine). I wish I could use this every day though except the granules and rinsing part.

Rating on every major benefit claimed by the product:

1) Remove dead skin cells and impurities ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
2) Restore skin’s natural glow, in other words, brightening ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
3) Improve skin texture and shrink enlarged pores ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

Precautions (new section in my product reviews!)

  1. Shea Butter is high on the list, so if your skin can’t tolerate shea butter you might want to think twice or research more about the product.
  2. It includes Cetyl Alcohol, Alcohol, Cetearyl Alcohol. and Fragrance so you should do more research about it. I personally don’t have any bad reactions from alcohol and fragrance in skincare so this worked fine by me. Also, please refrain from “demonizing” the ingredient alcohol, and please check out Lab Muffin Beauty Science to learn more about them.
  3. Those with sensitive skin might not be able to tolerate this product because of the granules present. The key to using this one is to apply and spread it gently.

FINAL VERDICT and OVERALL PRODUCT RATING: 4.5/5 | It’s overall an effective product and I would’ve given a perfect rating except for the granules and the rinsing part of it. I don’t mind the scent at all, I have my preferences. Would I repurchase? I may repurchase when I don’t find a product as effective as it is but have smaller granules my skin will love better.

beautifully written and I’m in love with the pictures. I totally agree with the part where fermented products might cause irritation and red bumps if introduced properly. But I’m sure they works great. Looking forward to more reviews. xoxox

Hello Nadine, great explanations for all these I’m From products. I’m new to this product and was wondering if you could leave some feedback on your routine for this I’m From Rice Mask, and is it giving you the acne/red bumps back because of the fermented ingredient?
